Clashes, chases and cocktail explosions broke out between leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir over dominance at Ishwardi Government College in Pabna. Several people were reportedly injured in the incident at the main gate of Ishwardi Government College around 11:30 am on Thursday. In addition, a Chhatra Dal office was vandalized.
It was learned from some students and eyewitnesses of the college that since morning, Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists had been staying in the college campus and surrounding areas. At around 11:30 am, Chhatra Shibir took out a protest procession from Bakul intersection near the college. When the procession reached the main gate of the college, a chase and clash started between the two sides. At that time, the sound of several cocktail explosions was heard. At one stage, the temporary office of Chhatra Dal in front of the college gate was vandalized. The leaders and activists involved in the clash were seen carrying sticks and sharp weapons.
Chhatra Dal claimed that several people, including Ishwardi Government College Chhatra Dal president Khalid Bin Parthib, were injured in the clash. College Chhatra Dal vice-president Imran Hossain Khan alleged that around 11:30 am, the college Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were peacefully staying on the campus. At that time, one to 150 activists of Chhatra Shibir came to the campus gate with outsiders. They entered the campus by exploding cocktails. Then they beat up the Chhatra Dal leaders and activists and vandalized a temporary Chhatra Dal office in front of the college gate.

In a counter-allegation, Ishwardi Upazila Chhatra Shibir President Sajib Hasan said that they had a pre-planned protest program at the college. For this, they took permission from the college authorities and sought the cooperation of the police administration. When the procession from Bakul intersection reached the gate of Ishwardi College around 11:30, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists threw bricks and stones at them. Later, there was a clash between the two parties.
Regarding the vandalism of the Chhatra Dal office, Shibir leader Sajib Hasan said, “We do not do the politics of vandalism. We do not know who or what vandalized the Chhatra Dal office.”
In this regard, Md. Afzal Hossain, in-charge of Ambagan police outpost in Ishwardi city, said, “There was a little tension between the two sides. However, the situation is normal now. Both sides have left the college campus. Additional police have been deployed at the scene.”
